Ever feel like your body goes into panic mode when you speak? Like something invisible is whispering “You’re not enough” or “No one cares what you have to say”?

In this special peek inside the Speakers Studio’s Soulful Speaking Immersion, Lauri guides you through the internal voices, habits, and energies that show up when we speak from the soul—and how to meet them with compassion rather than control.

This episode is a gentle, powerful invitation to stop fighting yourself and start trusting the sacredness in your sensations.

TAKEAWAYS

1. The body often responds to speaking like it's a threat—but it can learn a new story.

2. The “soul suckers” (Nervous Nellies, Imposter Monsters, Stage Mothers, and Below the Belt Bastards) are old protectors, not truths.

3. Of course you’re different—you’re one in eight billion. And that’s your magic.

4. Naming what you’re releasing can help you reclaim your voice.

5. Not everyone will vibe with your message—and that’s okay. Speak to the ones who do.

6. Feeling energy and sensation isn’t a flaw—it’s a doorway.

7. Your job isn’t to fake it or fix it, but to hold space for what’s real.

Lauri:

Hello and welcome back to Soulful Speaking. Here on this show we explore the real, raw and sometimes revolutionary side of public speaking. In today's episode I'm bringing you inside the speaker's studio, behind the scenes of the Soulful Speaking immersion. In this snippet we dive into the invisible habits, voices and fears that can hold us back From oh my god, I can't breathe to who am I to speak? These are things that we rarely say out loud, but in this space we shine a light on them, we meet them with compassion and then we begin to let them go. To let them go the body sensations.

Lauri:

The Western world does not as a whole, does not know what to do with physical sensations. Most of the Western world does not believe that energy even exists, although now science is sort of catching up with things like mirror neurons and energy fields and highly sensitive people and empaths. Science is catching up. So what it feels like we have been trained with is like that. There was an an old Lost in Space show. There's a new one, but the old one had like a really funky android that would go Danger Will Robinson danger. So we have a habit, when there's energy and when it's important to us and when there's sensation of trying to shut it down and it can be kind of on a spectrum of fight, flight or freeze, where it might not technically be in that, but you do feel a little like you know you're shutting it down. Or it can be such a habit that like if you've ever met somebody who you watch them speak and you you just feel like you're getting them mentally and they say, oh, I used to be nervous but I got over that. One of my voice instructors had two actors on a stage doing what she was teaching them and one of them was riveting and for the other one, with her British accent, she said it was like there's no there there and she went off to investigate why. And it was like because they shut it down so much that it's like their body doesn't have this capacity to respond fully in the moment. So part of what's happening by being in these groups together is your body is learning that you speaking is different than if you came across a bear in the woods. They're both important. They're important in different ways.

Lauri:

The thing that is going danger, will Robinson, it's habits, parts of us that may be driving or being in charge that we don't, we may not want in charge now scared for us because speaking really authentically and soulfully and about the things that matter to us is vulnerable and courageous. So the inner soul suckers are going danger, danger, danger, danger. And we're teaching it in here. It's safe. And we're teaching it in here. It's safe. And when you hold the space outside of here it's safe. Even when you speak in the middle of someone else's meeting, when you put your energetic arms around the room, you're now the one creating the safety. And first your body and all your parts need to log some reps and build up some energetic escrow in here to know that you can go out there and hold the safe spaces. Sometimes is helpful to name what you're releasing from driving or being in charge that no longer serves you. It might be a soul sucker.

Lauri:

The four soul suckers are the nervous Nellies. They tend to say things like not enough time, not enough money, not enough energy. The imposter monsters you're not enough for some specific reason. Old enough, pretty enough, thin enough, experienced enough. The controlling stage mothers if you plan every single detail, you can make up for your not enoughness. If you're going to do it, they're going to control the hell out of it.

Lauri:

The below the belt bastards can say I'm not enough, period, no one cares what I have to say. There's a kernel of truth to all of them. I really didn't want there to be a kernel of truth to below the, to the below the belt bastards. And then someone told me there is the imposter monsters. Kernel of truth is they're saying you're different. And when our protector parts take over, they want to cover up those differences because they think it's a problem to be different. You are are different. You are one in eight billion on this planet. There is no one else exactly like you, and when my soul is seeing you, it's saying thank God for your differences. You are here to bring something that no one else can bring in a way that no one else can bring it, and we need your differences, we need your voice in the conversation. So if you can take the I'm different and that's a good thing, I'm going to hold the space that I'm here to hold. I'm going to do what I'm here to do. That's the shift, and then start looking for the room changing in the way that you know. You hold it. The below the belt bastards are saying no one cares what you have to say. The kernel of truth is that somebody doesn't or didn't care, and the didn't care might be like the legacy of some stuff in our past, which makes it triggering. When it seems like someone in the room doesn't care and we start to like, at least I have, I will out myself.

Lauri:

I have been very guilty of focusing on the one person in the room who seems to be not vibing with me, looking at me like I'm nuts and like honing in and trying to make them get it. Who are you trying to convince them? Or you? And it was like I'm trying to convince myself through them or I'm trying to convince my father about into it. You know, mother, very intuitive, father, very rational, totally confusing. When we can release the protectors from driving, then we can open up into.

Lauri:

Yeah, I'm not for everybody. There are other speaking coaches that some people are going to vibe with and not me, and I'm still going to hold the space for them to jump into this pool of what I believe is the better way to do it. But it becomes like great because they're, you know, out of the 8 billion people on the planet, there are a lot of speaking coaches. If everybody of the 8 billion people on the planet. Were all my clients, something would need to change with how I do things.

Lauri:

So somebody in the room might not care, and it's not about you. There's nothing to fake, nothing to protect yourself from. You're just not their person. Focus on the ones who are. What if all that stuff you feel wasn't a flaw but a doorway? What if the sensations, the energy and the soul suckers were just signs that something sacred is trying to come through? You don't have to fight it, you just need to hold space for it. It can be messy and it's also magical and utterly human.
